Big Walk: How to Reach the Highest Point (Big Climb Achievement)
How to earn Big Climb in Big Walk: unlock the map room to find the highest point on the 3D map, walk from the map room towards the red tower and across to the black tower, then climb the mountain slope to the summit cable-car station and the final ledge above the ocean, where the achievement unlocks.
The Big Climb achievement in Big Walk is the "reach the highest point" trophy, and it is one of the least-earned achievements in the game because the summit is not on any tower route. The short version: unlock the map room, read the 3D map — the highest point in the game is the mountain in the middle of that model — then walk from the map room up towards the red tower and across to the black tower, and from the black tower climb the slope all the way to the top of the mountain and its cable-car station. Keep going past the station, ignore the dark-yellow structure, take the left-hand passage, and continue up to the ledge above the ocean, where a radio and binoculars sit and Big Climb pops.
The unlock at a glance
- Unlock the map room. It holds the map, the compass, and the 3D map of the island.
- Read the target off the 3D map. The highest point in the game is the mountain in the middle of the model; your destination is the black tower.
- Walk the two legs of the route. From the map room (red tower side) go up, then all the way across to the black tower.
- Climb from the black tower. The narrator is explicit that the mountain top is much easier to reach from the black tower than from anywhere else — walk up, right, left, right, and up through the opening.
- Finish above the cable-car station. At the top of the mountain you meet the cable-car station; go up the left-hand side, skip the dark-yellow structure, take the left passage, then keep going up through the last gap until Big Climb unlocks.
Before you start
You need the map room open, because that is where the route starts and where you confirm which mountain is the highest point. The map room is the reward room tied to the red tower side of the map — this site's map and compass guide covers opening it as its own task, so clear that first if you have not.
The climb itself is a traversal task, not a puzzle: there is no code to solve and no second player required. Bring a radio or walkie-talkie if you are playing with a group, so the person at the back is not guessing the turns, and remember that the summit is high enough that a fall costs you the walk back up rather than anything else — nothing here can soft-lock you.

00:20 — inside the map room the narrator frames the 3D map and points out that the highest point in the game is right there in the middle.
Success check: you are standing in the map room in front of the 3D map, and you know the target is the mountain in the middle of the island.
Step 1 — Read the black tower off the 3D map
The 3D map is the key to this achievement: it is the game's clearest way to see the whole island with its heights, and the source uses it to identify the middle mountain as the one worth climbing. Mark the black tower on it — the narrator walks the model with the camera and points out the black tower as the place the climb starts — and note that the map room you are standing in belongs to the red tower area.

00:27 — the black tower is picked out on the 3D map as the destination, with the map room on the red tower side of the island.
Success check: you can name the two landmarks you are navigating between — the red tower (map room) and the black tower (climb start).
Step 2 — Walk from the map room towards the red tower, then across to the black tower
The route out of the map room has two legs, and the source states them in order: move up towards the red tower first, then move all the way over to the black tower. Do not try to cut straight across — the red tower side is the terrain that actually connects to the black tower, and it is also where the shortcut you opened on the way in lives.

00:36 — the first leg of the route goes up towards the red tower, then all the way across to the black tower on the map.
Success check: you have left the map room heading up towards the red tower with the black tower as your next landmark.
Step 3 — Take the small passage and climb up to the black tower
On the way up you pass through a small passage in the rock and then climb the rest of the way to the black tower. This is the only part of the route where the path is narrow, so go through it deliberately instead of walking around it — the source's wording is "go through this small passage" and then "climb up from here all the way to this point".

00:59 — climbing through the small passage on the way up towards the black tower.
Success check: you are through the passage and the black tower is ahead of you.
Step 4 — Treat the black tower as the start of the real climb
Reaching the black tower is the point where the mountain suddenly becomes easy to climb. The source is blunt about why this matters: "once you're here at this black tower, it's much easier to get to the top of the mountain from here". So do not look for a climbing route near the map room — the black tower, which this site also covers as the Big Wall route, is the base camp for Big Climb.

01:15 — at the black tower: from here the mountain top is much easier to reach, which is why the route starts the climb at this structure.
Success check: you are standing at the black tower with the mountain slope in front of you.
Step 5 — Know the cable-car shortcut (and its requirement)
There is also a chairlift / cable car that runs up this mountain, and it is worth knowing about because it can take you up to the top of this mountain. The catch is that it only works once you have unlocked the green tower first — unlocking the green tower is what activates the cable-car mechanism. If your save has not done the green tower yet, walk; if it has, the lift saves you the slope.

01:34 — the chairlift / cable car up the mountain, which requires the green tower to be unlocked before it will move.
Success check: you know whether your save has the green tower unlocked, and therefore whether the lift is an option or you are walking.
Step 6 — Walk up the slope: right, left, right, and up through the opening
Walking from the black tower, the source calls the turns as they happen: go up, move to the right, then move to the left, then right again, and then up through the opening in the rocks. You are gaining height the whole time, and the source does not stop to interact with anything on this stretch — so keep climbing until the ground levels off.

01:52 — walking uphill from the black tower after the first right turn; the slope keeps rising towards the ridge.
Success check: you have come out on the ridge above the slope and the ground has levelled off.
Step 7 — Cross the top of the mountain and pass the cable-car station
At the ridge you have reached the top of the mountain, and the cable-car station is sitting there. This is a waypoint, not the finish: take the left-hand side of the station and go up. If you arrived by lift, this is where you get off and continue on foot.

02:16 — the top of the mountain, with the cable-car station where the lift arrives; continue up the left-hand side from here.
Success check: you are past the cable-car station and still climbing on its left-hand side.
Step 8 — Ignore the dark-yellow structure and take the left passage
Above the station you walk past a dark-yellow structure sitting on the slope. The source is explicit: "you don't need to go there". Instead look to the left, where there is a small passage; go over the top of it and move left. Players who climb towards the yellow structure are simply adding height they have to walk back down.

02:36 — the dark-yellow structure on the slope above the cable-car station: it is a decoy, and the route turns left instead.
Success check: you have passed the yellow structure on your right and are inside the left-hand passage.
Step 9 — Reach the overlook with the radio and binoculars, then take the last gap
The plateau above the passage is the summit area: the source finds a radio, binoculars, and a lot more here. It is tempting to stop, with the ocean laid out below, but you are still a little short of the achievement, and the source says so directly ("you still need to go a little bit up in order to unlock the achievement"). Keep going up through the small gap and keep going up until the achievement fires.

02:58 — the summit overlook where a radio, binoculars and more are waiting; the achievement needs one more short climb from here.

03:16 — the last gap above the overlook, the exact spot where the source unlocks Big Climb.
Success check: you have climbed past the radio and binoculars overlook and the achievement notification appears.
Success check
Big Climb is confirmed the same way the source confirms it: the Steam achievement panel shows Big Climb — "Reach the highest point" already earned. The source's own capture lists it at a 12.7% global unlock rate, which is the reason this guide exists — it is one of the most commonly missed achievements in Big Walk, and the reward is simply standing on the highest ground in the game.

03:25 — the source's Steam achievement panel: Big Climb, "Reach the highest point", already earned.
Common mistakes and recovery
- Searching for the summit from the map room. The climb does not start where you read the map. Walk the two legs first — up towards the red tower, then across to the black tower — because the mountain is only easy to climb from the black tower side.
- Climbing towards the dark-yellow structure. It looks like the route and it is not. If you find yourself gaining height towards the yellow structure above the station, turn around, come back to the station's left-hand side, and take the small passage instead.
- Stopping at the radio and binoculars. This is the most common near-miss: the overlook looks like the summit, but the source still had to climb one more gap from there before Big Climb appeared. Keep going up until the notification shows.
- Waiting for the cable car. The lift only runs once the green tower is unlocked. If it is not moving, that is the missing requirement rather than a bug — walk the slope, or go unlock the green tower first.
- Losing the route entirely. Go back to the black tower and restart the climb from there; it is the one landmark that always reconnects you to the correct slope, and the 3D map in the map room will re-confirm the target if you are unsure which peak is the tallest.
Player-count and version notes
- The source is a solo run, and Big Climb has no co-op step — unlike the Big Help achievement, which specifically requires a teammate to attach the belt. Group size does not change this route.
- The route is fixed world geometry: the map room, the red tower, the black tower, the cable-car station and the summit overlook sit in the same places in every session, so the steps do not change with player count or world size.
- The one progress dependency worth repeating: the map room must be open to start, and the green tower must be unlocked before the cable-car shortcut will work.
- The achievements shown in the source are the Steam list, with Big Climb listed as "Reach the highest point". Achievement names on other platforms follow the same wording in this guide.
- Bonus for completionists: the radio the source finds at the summit overlook is a radio station location, and this site covers the full set in the 7 radio station locations guide — the mountain-top station is the same one, so you can tick both objectives off in a single climb.
